Kirk`s greatest life achievement took place in 1983 wile living in California. Kirk was at home and heard the phone ringing and answered it; it was James Hetfieled singer of Metallica. He asked Kirk to go to New York and try out for the group, and Kirk accepted. So he went to New York and the group accepted him with out any tryouts.
Another achievement would be that he is one of the best guitarist in the world and has accepted many awards for doing what he does. His greatest accomplishment would be, once again, being accepted in the group without tryouts. For me, he is my hero because I want to play like he does and many others as well.

Kirk`s biggest obstacles was the death of his friend, Cliff Burton Metallica`s first bassist. It was the biggest obstacle because it determined the future of the group. But they decided to continue with the group. Another obstacle would be when he and his group members were trying to get off of drugs; they almost lost their lead singer and second guitarist from a overdose, and that is when they decided to all quit.

Kirk has many characteristic traits. One of them would be that when time to work with the band he stops fooling around and concentrates only on his work, the band, and the music.

When Kirk is not working on his music or with the group he spends time with his wife, family and friends. One more of his characteristic traits would be his hair because Kirk would not be Kirk with out his hair. He tried having short for a few years and then decided it was not for him. So whenever you see him you know it is him from the hair. Kirk does not like to argue with the group because he gets nervous that they might break up.

I think that one of the biggest events of my hero's life would be losing his best friend. It started after one of their tours and they were getting on their bus. It was winter and there was poor road conditions, but they still decided to go ahead. After a short pereod of time, Cliff Burton opened his window, and then it happened that the bus hit some black ice at a turn and the bus fell over on its' side. Well, Cliff fell out the window and the bus crushed him. After the incident, Kirk and the group nearly broke up, but decided not to and continue on.

I chose the event because I think that it is the biggest event that he had to go through and I think that it also shows bravery to continue the group despite the loss of their friend, Cliff Burton. Most of the time a group breaks up after an event like that. The group decided togeather not to, and to continue on for Cliff. There are other serious events that he went through, but this is the one where he demonstrated most of his heroism.

Kirk’s background is very similar to many of ours. When kirk was 10 he began to have an interest in music, especially heavy metal. At the age of 15, Kirk took his brother's guitar and began to practice. His amp was an old box with a speaker in it. Also, he listened to a lot Led Zeppelin. Kirk needed money for a new amp and worked at Burger king for the summer, and with the money, he bought himself a new guitar and amp. At the age of 20 he was called to audition for Metallica and he made the group.

Kirk Hammett is a hero because he is an inspiration to thousands of people around the world. He proved to us that nothing is impossible; that all it takes to succeed is a little practice and encouragement. An example of this is the way he learned how to play his guitar. He also showed that quitting drugs is a very possible thing. An example of this is that he surfs so he doesn't have to drink or use drugs. Another way he quit is through drug rehab, and that also helped him a lot. These are the examples why Kirk Hammett deserves the Hero Award.
