This is Koko the gorilla! |
Koko is a gorilla, she was born on the July fourth, 1971. Koko was the youngest to learn sign language, at the age of one. She lives in the Gorilla Foundation which is located in Woodside, California. The Gorilla Foundation helps gorillas not be extinct and they teach them sign language so they can talk to humans about their feelings and other animals feelings. The Gorilla Foundation also helps people not destroy animals shelters and homes. She has been working with Dr. Penny for over 30 years! Dr. Penny is thrilled to be working with Koko, she says she a great inspiration to her and everyone around the world.

One of her greatest accomplishments was getting her voice out and the other animals voices to express that they have feelings like humans. Another accomplishment is mastering over 1,000 words in sign language! She never gave up and she figured out a solution to talk, which is sign language!

Dr. Penny giving Koko a cat! |
Koko is still alive today at the age of 34 years old! She always wanted to have a cat. So Dr. Penny got her a stuffed animal cat, but Koko figured it out. When Dr. Penny gave her a cat, Koko was thrilled! Koko always wanted a baby too. So she treated that cat like a baby. Holding her in her arms like jelly in a jar.

Just Koko! (myhero.com/koko) |
I really do believe that Koko is a hero for all of her extraordinary missions to help animals including herself, to have a voice. That takes effort and courage. If a gorilla can do it we can do it. Koko has inspired me to be myself and stand up for what I believe in and not just go with the crowed. She has inspired other people to save gorillas in all parts of the world with her intelligence level! Koko leaves a legacy of courage, perseverance, bravery, and happiness. Don't forget to donate to the Gorilla Foundation. You can make a difference too. Save the gorillas!
