What does it mean to have perseverance? To have perseverance means to keep moving forward and never give up on your dreams no matter what. This is exactly what Lisa Bufano did. Lisa overcame life obstacles and had perseverance.

Lisa Bufano is a dancer. She also is an Award Winning animator and doll maker. Lisa graduated from Tufts University and the school of the Museum of Fine Arts. When Lisa was twenty-one years of age, she got a staph infection that raged through her body and shut down blood flow to her limbs. Lisa had to have all of her fingers and legs amputated.

Even though it looked like Lisa’s dancing dreams were crumbling down, she never gave up hope. She pushed forward and had lots of perseverance. Lisa soon got prosthetic legs, which enabled her the ability to keep her dancing dreams alive. But, it wasn’t so easy for Lisa. She had to learn how to exercise and dance on her new legs. Lisa now runs several miles a day on her high-tech carbon fiber prosthetic legs that look like big C-shape springs. She has started performing at multiple shows with and without her prosthetic legs. She is also showing America that no matter what, you can do whatever you want.

Lisa has inspired me to never give up on my dreams. She has shown me that whatever happens I should never stop having faith in God and remember that He will always take care of me. I have also learned from Lisa’s examples I should never let obstacles stop me from reaching my dreams.

Lisa Bufano, in my eyes, is a true hero. She overcame all of her life obstacles and keeps pushing forward. She never gave up and had plenty of perseverance. To me this is what being a true hero is all about.
