Lauren Hill is a hero because she stayed strong as she fought through the pain of her tumor, and fought to find a cure for others like her. This was what the last years of Lauren's life were like. After being diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer, Lauren decided to keep fighting and not let her tumor ruin the time she had left. In November of 2013, Lauren Hill found out that she was suffering from terminal brain cancer. Lauren continued to live out her dream of playing for Mount St Joseph.

Lauren raised thousands of dollars to help find a cure for her rare form of brain cancer. Instead of giving up when she found out her cancer was inoperable, Lauren chose to try to make a difference for others. In the two years from her diagnosis to her passing, she accomplished a lifetime worth of good and lived out her dream. Her foundation had raised 1.5 million towards cancer research by the time of her death in 2015. After her diagnosis, Lauren was determined not only to help others but to live out her dream of playing college basketball.

Lauren Hill's dream had always been to play basketball for Mt. St. Joseph. By the time Lauren got to experience her dream she was very sick but she pushed through the pain to try experience it the way she thought she always would have. Lauren was such an amazing and inspirational person that, when it came close to the end of her journey, she had everyone pulling for her. With the help of her coach and teammates, Lauren got to feel the excitement of playing college basketball. The day Lauren passed away, Mount St. Joseph women's basketball team and family and friends celebrated her life. At the celebration to honor Lauren, her coach Dan Benjamin said... "The toughest thing for a coach ever, ever, to do, is to deal with a loss, we lost a player. We lost a friend, a daughter, and we lost an unselfish angel" (NPR). Lauren Hill was given devastating news for anyone but especially for someone so young. How she chose to live the rest of her life was a true inspiration.

A hero is a strong person who doesn't show signs of weakness and is a good role model to others. Lauren Hill is a role model to other people because she told us to never give up. Lauren Hills is also a hero because, even though she had lots of pain because of her brain tumor, she never wanted to show her pain.
