Lars Ulrich

Lars Ulrich was born on December 26th, 1963 in Gentofte, Denmark. When Lars was 10, Richie Blackmore and Deep Purple "blew his socks off" at one of the first gigs he ever attended. This began a recurrent theme throughout his life, an obsession with a band, which in his case was Deep Purple. At 13, his grandmother bought him his first drum set. Even though his father made him play tennis since he was a young child, Lars wanted to play his drums but had tennis as a top priority. When his family moved to Newport Beach, California in the late '70's, he got more interested into girls, rock'n'roll, and "the occasional funny cigarette". He got interested in metal music also while "jamming" with, his future band front-man, James Hetfield.

After some 80-odd million albums sold all over the world, Metallica is still alive and going strong, with Lars still the drummer for them and James Hetfield still the front-man. they are the only two band members who have stayed with the band since it was first conceived. Some of the hardships the band has had to overcome was the death of one of the original band members, Cliff Burton. He died in a tragic bus accident somewhere in Sweden on September 27th, 1986. The band's tour bus skidded out of control and flipped, killing Cliff.

The reason Lars is my hero is because he inspired me to start playing drums and he makes very good music with Metallica. Metallica's music has helped me through a bunch of situations where I was upset or really mad at something or someone. Just like Lars has an obsession with Deep Purple, I am the same way with Metallica. Also, when I'm upset I play my drums to a song that was made by Metallica and it calms me down a little bit. Just saying some lyrics from some of their songs can cheer me up sometimes.

Lars is 5'7" and is 46 years old. He has 3 children. He has green eyes and has blonde/ brown hair. His hair use to be very long but sometime between 1991 and 1993 he shaved it and has not let it get very long since. As i said before, ever since he was a little kid his favorite band has been "Deep Purple".
