This was Velasquez's attitude towards life to achieve her goals. Lizzie was born with a rare syndrome that has many effects, one being that she cannot gain weight, and one that she is blind in one eye. Lizzie Velasquez was born March 13, 1989, weighing 2 pounds and 10 ounces, which is half the normal size of a average baby (Bordo). Even inherited with this, she has always been strong and resilient. Lizzie Velasquez is now a twenty-one year old woman who was born with a rare syndrome that only three other people in the world have. Velasquez has had this disease since day one, but it was when she was in kindergarten that she first discovered it. Many of the other kids secluded her because of what she looked like. When Lizzie was seventeen years old a viral video of her as a young child titles "World's Ugliest Woman" changed her life dramatically. Because of this horrific event, she decided that she wanted to help others. She is now a motivational speaker inspiring others to love themselves and to be optimistic. A hero must possess bravery, perseverance and be an inspiration to all, and Velasquez has all of theses qualities and more. Thousands of people have put Lizzie down, but she wouldn't let that stop her from striving forward to gain even more achievable things. She put her game face on and set towards the world with her brave heart.

Lizzie was born to be unsuccessful, but she persevered and rose above that guideline, becoming an ambitious and strong role-model. Lizzie Velasquez was a strong person who persevered through all that was thrust upon her. Lizzie went beyond people's expectations to never be able to walk, or talk or doing anything. She is a motivational speaker, which is an amazing accomplishment. This was especially incredible for someone who used to not be able to show her face to her kindergarten class because of what she looked like.
