Lil Wayne

by Aaron from Weyauwega

Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. is my hero. He was born on September 27, 1982 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Wayne enrolled in Lafayette Elementary school, in the gifted program, and he was in the drama club too. When he was eleven, he met Bryan Williams; he was the rapper and owner of Cash Money Records at the time. After Wayne met Bryan he started leaving freestyle raps on his answering machine. Then Bryan became the mentor of Wayne, and started including him in some songs with Cash Money Records as the publisher. After he was starting to get involved with Cash Money Records more he began getting nicknames like, Weezy F Baby, Lil Weezy, Young Weezy, JR, Birdman Jr, Best Rapper Alive, Dr. Carter, Young Tune/Tuneche, President Carter, Mr. Carter, and Weezyana.

As his adult life started to approach he was starting to make a well-known name for himself. He was a member of a rap group called the Hot Boys. Then he officially joined Cash Money Records as a teenager. His first song, Get It How U Live, was released in 1997, and was Lil Wayne’s first album with Hot Boys. Then he had a solo rap called Tha Block is Hot that came out 1999. His song came out in the top ten on the American Billboard 200 chart. Wayne was nominated for “Best New Artist” from The Source magazine in that same year. After that success, Wayne soon featured on other rappers’ singles. Including “Bling Bling” by B.G. and “#1 Stunna” by the Big Tymers in the year of 2000.

Wayne has had a lot of achievements in his life, and these are just a few. He has a daughter named Reginae Carter with Antonia Johnson, who was his high school sweetheart. They got married on Valentines Day of 2004. Then they divorced in 2006. During his acceptance speech for “Lyricist of the Year”, at the 2008 BET Awards, Wayne announced that he was going to have a son soon. His son is Dwayne Carter III. He was born on Oct. 22, at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. The child’s mom is unknown. Then in an interview with Blender, Lil Wayne revealed one of his favorite bands from childhood. It turned out to be the rock group Nirvana. He cites them as a major influence in his music.

After Wayne grew up from his childhood, it led to a promising future. In Wayne’s career of 11 years he reached sales peaks incomparable to any other rapper. His single, The Block is Hot, was ranked 50 on the top billboard of all time. Right now he is at his highest peak ever. Wayne has sold over 1 million copies of Tha Carter 3 in his first week. His hit song, Lollipop, also ran #1 for four consecutive weeks. Now, he has been nominated for the Album of the Year, and Best Rap Album for the 51st Grammy Awards.

The celebrity gossip was starting to affect Wayne, as it did to many other famous people. Rumours were starting to go around in August 2008, that Wayne’s daughter had died in a car crash. Which, however, he quickly cleared up as false saying, “Please allow me to dispel any rumors or speculations and report that my daughter is alive, healthy and surrounded by family who care and love her dearly. The rumors are completely false and unfounded; neither Reginae nor any other member of my family has been involved in any car accident.” "His 3rd child, Lennox Samuel Ari, was born to actress Lauren London on September 9, 2009. He then had his fourth child, Neal, on November 30, 2009, with singer Nivea."

Wayne made an organization for children all around the world. On February 19, 2008, Wayne revisited his old school, McMain Secondary School, to get students to design an invitation to the party, introducing Wayne’s nonprofit, One Family Foundation. The website Change.org says: “The mission of One Family Foundation, Inc., is to give power to the youth by providing them with opportunities to practice their talents and skills. Also to educate them to become productive and self-sufficient in life, and provoking them to dream beyond their circumstances.”

Wayne is still alive today. Some of the reasons why I picked him as my hero were because he is strong. He cares about other people. He also overcame the stereotypes of the common person. As well, he has shown that through strength and determination, you can do whatever you want to do with your life.
