Abraham Lincoln, he was an amazing man. He did many things for our country. He helped us get rid of racism, slavery and he stopped the Civil War. He is an inspiration to all of us and I hope many of our other presidents are as responsible as him. Abraham is definitely an amazing man and yes he is my hero. There are many ways you can be like him.

Abraham Lincoln was the president of the United States for four years. Abraham also really grew up on the American frontier. He was born in Hodgenville, Kentucky. Abraham’s parents wanted him to go to school but instead he decided to teach himself. I think this fact is amazing because I don’t know one single president who was self-taught besides Abe.

As Abe got older he worked for his dad, who made him split rails for a woman next door named Mrs. Miller. She couldn’t pay him due to lack of money so for every four hundred rails Abe split, she would give him a yard of cloth for his pants. This is how Abe got his nickname “Rail Splitter”. When Abraham turned seven, he and parents moved to Indiana. Abraham actually attended school in Indiana but only for a short period of time. But on a sadder note Abraham's mom died of milk poisoning which can be attained through drinking the milk of a cow that eats the White Snake Root. About a year later, Abe’s dad re-married to a nice women who Abe adored. Her name was Sarah Bush Johnston Lincoln. Another ten years later, Abe suffered another loss when his sister died in child birth. Some time after this, he moved to Illinois to later be sworn in as President on March 4, 1861.

Abraham Lincoln is an example of a hero near and far. He fits T.A. Barron’s description of a hero near and far in lots of ways. The first way he fits this description is because he helped the Union overcome the Confederates in the Civil War. Secondly he freed the slaves which relates to my first reason. They were freed because the of the Union winning the Civil War. Finally he stopped racism throughout the land by making the North and the South come together as one which got rid of most but not all racism.

Abe was a great man and I hope you learned a lot more about what he did and how much he helped our country. He is truly an amazing man and he deserved to be President of the United States longer. I wish Abraham could’ve served two terms as president because I think he would have done more amazing things for our country.
