Lulu, the house broken pot belly pig, saved Jo Ann Altsman, a 61-year-old who was fishing at lake Erie. Jo Ann was suffering a heart attack, this was her second in two months. Lulu belonged to Jo Ann's daughter Jackie and at the time, Jo Ann was babysitting in Beverly Falls.  Jackie continuously put off picking up Lulu and before long Lulu was Jo Ann's! This made Jo Ann happier than she had ever been before, but Lulu was about to prove herself more than just a pot bellied pig!

On August 4, 1998, Jo Ann was fishing at Lake Erie. She suffered the heart attack back in their trailer. In fright she threw her alarm clock out the window, which alarmed no one but her dog. Luckily Lulu was nearby and rushed into the trailer through the doggy door. She pushed the door open and pulled Jo Ann out. Lulu pulled Jo Ann out to the roadside. There after a long time waiting  finally a man stopped and followed Lulu to Jo Ann.

The man stopped at the side of the road said " Lady, your pig is in distress." Jo Ann said " I'm in distress,  please call an anbulance." Jo Ann was flown to the Beaver Medical Center for open heart surgery.  The doctors told her that if 15 more minutes past she would have died.  Jo Ann was saved all thanks to Lulu.

Since then they have made many appearances on TV shows.  Lulu went from 5 pounds to a shocking 335 pounds. Every holiday they gather around the table and feast on pizza, salad, pasta, and cookies. They never eat pork! Lulu is as happy as Jo Ann and Lulu is expected to live 55 more years.

Lulu's story inspired me because she did a heroic thing. She worked hard to help the person she cared about. Sometimes when you take people you love for granted, you miss the important times. Lulu didn't do that. She stayed loyal to Jo Ann and that's what matters.
