There are many heroes in the world. There are some that are sport heroes, acting heroes, heroes who save lives and do other good deeds. My hero is Willie Mays. He was an outstanding baseball player. He was born May, 1931 in West Field, Alabama.
Willie Mays played for the San Francisco Giants for twenty-one years. He also played for other teams. Willie Mays broke so many records when he played. He had a batting average of 302. He got a hit in almost every game he played in. In his whole career, he hit 660 homeruns. People believed he would break Babe Ruth’s record before Hank Aaron did. He had 3,283 hits in his whole career. He had 1,902 RBI’s (Runs Batted In).
Willie Mays was elected twenty-four times to the All-Star game. He was not only good at batting, but he was also good in the field. His position was center field. He received twelve consecutive Gold Glove Awards for his performance. During his career, he tagged out 339 people, making him one of the few in the 300 club. He is also really fast. He made it into the 30 club for 30 bases stolen.
In conclusion, my hero, Willie Mays, is important to me. He is a role model and a leader, and he changed the world of baseball. He makes a difference in my life because I have always wanted to be as good a baseball player as him. He was also a good sport about winning and losing, and he is a nice person.
