Every year on the 19th of January, Americans celebrate a marvelous day in remembrance of Martin Luther King Jr. He is a hero to many people around the world and a role model to all. Martin Luther King Jr. was a preacher, who fought for the rights of African-Americans. Like Gandhi, he was a non-violent protester. In this story, you will learn about the things Martin Luther King Jr. did for his people and for the rights of freedom. You will also learn why he is not only a hero for me, but for everyone else in the world as well.

Martin Luther King Jr. was a very important person and still is in our world today. He changed our lives forever. He was born on the 15th of January, 1929 and he died on the 4th of April, 1968 at the age of 39. He was born with the name Michael Luther King Jr., however, later on his father changed his name.

Martin went to a segregated school in Georgia. He got his B.A. degree at Morehouse College in 1948, and in 1951 he got his B.D. degree from Crozer Theological Seminary. Later, Martin married Coretta Scott in Boston. They had 4 children: 2 girls and 2 boys.

Martin Luther King Jr. lead the first super African-American non-violent demonstration during December of 1955. Then on December 21, 1956, he helped win equal rights for African-Americans so they no longer had to sit at the back of the bus. On August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous "I Have A Dream" speech. He was arrested more than 20 times. He won five honorary degrees. Martin was the youngest man to win the Nobel Peace Prize and he gave all the money he won to the civil rights movement. Martin Luther King was assassinated and died on the 4th of April, 1968.

I chose Martin Luther King Jr. because he was a significant person to the whole world. Just like he is my hero, he also had a hero who was Gandhi. Martin Luther King Jr. fought for equal rights and he is a role model for people of all ages. He is the strongest man in the history of African-Americans in the fight for freedom. He also stood up for his beliefs. These are the reasons why I chose him as my hero.

Character traits are a great way to describe a person. Martin Luther King Jr. demonstrated fairness and optimism. However, perseverance is the character trait that best describes him because he never gave up when he was fighting for the rights of African-Americans. He persevered to achieve his goal without violence. Martin was attacked and put in jail, but he never got angry. Perseverance best describes him because he achieved his goal even with all the obstacles and challenges in his life.

Martin Luther King Jr. was also very kind and courageous. Time magazine named him Man of The Year in 1963. Our world today would be very different if Martin Luther King Jr. had never been born. He had the courage to do many incredible things for his country, something not everyone would be able to do. He was, still is, and will always be a hero for a lot of people around the world. He is a one-in-a-million kind of individual - one of the best that this world has ever seen. Martin Luther King Jr. will be in our hearts forever and will never be forgotten.
