Muhammad Ali is a hero to many because he had a lot of intrepidity and he was very empathetic. During the 1950's and 60's, there was a lot of segregation and racism and Muhammad Ali wanted to fight it. He stood up for African American rights and was very confident and brave. One day he was drafted into the war but he refused to fight in it, he was put in jail and said, "The draft is about white people, sending black people, to fight yellow people, to protect the country they stole from the red people" Muhammad Ali wanted everyone to be equal so he fought for equality and helped this problem change a lot. Muhammad Ali was also very empathetic towards African Americans because he always stood up for them and fought for his race. He wanted everyone to be equal and have freedom, "Ali says he threw his Olympic gold medal into the Ohio River in anger because he was not served at a racist restaurant"(Biography.com). This shows that he was a hero because he fought for African Americans and showed empathy towards them and others by angrily throwing his only gold medal at the time into the river because racist people weren't being equal and all he wanted was equality. Based upon these facts, Muhammad Ali was a brave, powerful, selfless man that would fight not only for medals, but also for civil rights.
