My hero is Miguel Cabrera. He was born Jose Miguel Torres Cabrera on April 18, 1983 in Maracay, Venezuela. He is the 3rd baseman for the Detroit Tigers. Miguel Cabrera is an eight time All-Star. He got the Triple Crown in 2012. He had the most home runs, the most RBI's, and the highest batting average. He had 44 home runs, 139 RBI's, and a .330 batting average. Also in 2012, Cabrera received the American League MVP of the year. I have seen him play in Detroit and in Florida for spring training. I also watch as many Tigers games as possible on TV. I like watching him at a live game better than watching him on TV.
Miguel Cabrera grew up in a poor neighborhood in Maracay. He is very close to his family. He loved baseball. When he was six years old, he was good enough to play in national competitions. He would practice hitting with a stick as a bat and a wad of paper as a ball. His father tried to have a career in pro baseball and failed. Miguel's father did not want him to pursue a baseball career because he did not want him to fail too. He told him to work on being an engineer instead. Miguel did not give up his dream and when he was 14 he told his father that he had decided to pursue a pro career. His father said he would support him as long as he did good in school and got his diploma. Miguel Cabrera reached his goal and has become one of the best Major League Baseball Players ever.
Miguel Cabrera has started a charity called the Miguel Cabrera Foundation. He understands how difficult it is for kids is to follow their dreams. The foundation helps to fix baseball parks and and helps kids in poor communities in Detroit, in the United States, and Latin America.
Miguel Cabrera is not perfect. He is always trying to get better. He listens to directions and is always ready to learn more to become a better baseball player. He is my hero because he never gives up. When he was a kid he knew what he wanted to do. His goal was to play pro baseball. He never gave up on his dream even though his dad discouraged him. He is always trying to be a better man. He has inspired me to set goals and never give up. He taught me that hard work pays off and that I need to follow my dreams.
