Ordinary Person:
Madonna Louise Ciccone was born on August 16th, 1958 in Bay City, Michigan, located in the United States of America. She lived with her parents and her five siblings.
She went to St. Frederick’s and St. Andrew’s elementary schools. Here, Madonna was a rebel. She would do cartwheels and handstands in the hallways between classes.
Madonna was a very smart student in high school who participated in different things. She got straight A’s and was also a cheerleader in school.

Extraordinary Circumstances:
In 1984, her album “Like a Virgin” was number one on the billboard 200. Her first album sold over 21 million copies.
By the end of the 1980’s, Madonna was the most successful female artist. She had three albums that reached number one and seven singles that also reached number one.
In 1998, Madonna was in Forbes magazine. She was number 21 on the list of the richest people in America for her earnings of over $40 million dollars in 2008 alone.

Beating the Odds:
When Madonna left for New York City at the age of 19, she was very poor. She only had $35 in her pocket and had to work at a Dunkin Donuts in order to survive.
In 2008, she made $120 million dollars. She made all of this money from her concerts and from the selling of her compact disks (cd’s).
Even though Madonna had a rough childhood, she’s made it to the top. Madonna’s mother died when she was only five years old and her dad later remarried. Madonna did not like her stepmother very much.

Accomplishments:
Madonna is the biggest selling and most successful musician. She has sold over 200 million records. She is mentioned for this is the Guinness Book of World Records.
She has had great success on her tours. Her tours have brought in the most money beating out powerful musicians like Jay Z and Beyonce.
In 2008, Madonna’s hit “4 Minutes” reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100. This was the 37th time that one of Madonna’s songs was in the top ten of the Hot 100’s. She has had more top ten hits than Elvis Presley.
