My hero is Maria Skodowska, later known as Marie Curie. She was born in Warsaw, Poland at November 9th, 1867. She was very interested in science when she was young. However, unfortunately, before she turned 11, her mother died because of tuberculosis and her oldest sister died because of typhus. Marie was very sad, but she didn't give up anything. When she was old enough to enter an university, she traveled to Paris and entered Sorbonne University where she studied physics. The reason why she didn't enter university in Poland was because she was a woman and Poland was a part of a country in Russia at that time.
After she graduated from Sorbonne university, she met a man called Pierre Curie. After experimenting a while, in 1895, Pierre and Marie got married. One day, when they were experimenting, they discovered something that they've never seen before. Marie called it Polonium, naming it after her country. She got the first Nobel prize as a woman.
Another unfortunate event came. After Marie Curie had 2 daughters, Pierre Curie died because of a carriage accident. Marie didn't give up again and found Radium. She got ANOTHER Nobel prize for this discovery. She kept discovering. She died of a blood disease on July 4th, 1934.
She is my hero because I wanted to be a scientist when I was younger. When I first read about her, I really planned to be a scientist. She also discovered Polonium, Radium and others. She is also a risk taker because she could have died while she experiment and discovered things. She is also an inquirer because when she almost found Polonium, she was curious about it and discovered Polonium. She is quite like me, so I chose her as my hero.
I'll search the internet, read many books about science and experiments. I'll also try many other things like experimenting with tools or discovering important things to be like her. I'll be a famous scientist like her!
