Meghan Duggan is an USA Olympic ice hockey player who won a silver medal in 2010 and two World Championship gold medals. Throughout her time in high school, Meghan was not only an amazing hockey player, but also a 4-sport athlete and an excellent student. During her senior year, playing for the Wisconsin Badgers, Meghan received the Patty Kazmaier Award, recognizing the top women's ice hockey player in the NCAA. Meghan was Wisconsin's all-time leading scorer. While attending University of Wisconsin, she majored in biology and hopes to attend medical school and study in pediatrics after her hockey career. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin, Meghan was drafted to play professional hockey for the Boston Blades. Her ability to balance being a multi sport athlete and an excellent student is very inspiring.
Two years ago while playing for the Boston Jr. Eagles ice hockey team, I got to meet Meghan Duggan. She talked about her experience being an Olympic and college athlete. She was a local girl who grew up in Danvers, Massachusetts. I was immediately interested in her, and noticed she was not only an amazing hockey player, but also a well rounded and good person, showing me that you can be good at more than one thing.
While meeting Meghan, she told us about her concussion she received while playing hockey a few years ago. The injury sidelined her for just over a year, and gave her time to realize how much she missed playing hockey and appreciated the game more after not being able to play. She showed me that with hard work and determination, you can accomplish anything you put your mind to. She told me "Get comfortable being uncomfortable". And is now a real role model for me and the other girls she talked to.
