What is a hero? Is it someone who flies, saves lives, teleports, or just simply famous? Well to me a hero means someone who has perseverance, courage and strong heart. I think Missy Franklin ticks all of those boxes.
Melissa 'Missy' Franklin was born in Pasadena, California U.S.A in 1995. Missy Franklin's family is her mother D.A Franklin and her father Richard Franklin. Missy Franklin is an only child. Missy learned how to swim at the age of 5 because her mother was afraid of the water and she didn't want Missy to have the same fear so started taking Missy to lessons at the age of 5.

Missy Franklin went to her first Olympics in London 2012 and came home with 4 gold medals, one for the 100m backstroke, the other for the 200m backstroke, and two more as part of the 200m relay and 100m relay teams. Her father nicknamed her 'Missy the Missile' She initially disliked it and was horrified when he teased that he planned to have hot pink shirts made that had the phrase emblazoned on the back. Melissa Jeanette Franklin was born in Pasadena in 1995 and raised in Centennial, Orlando. Missy Franklin competed in 'Duel in the Pool' in 2009 at just 14, and later on in 2010 she was named 'Breakout Performer of the Year'. She completed in her first long course world championship meet and was awarded five medals, three of them gold, and broke her first world record at the FINA World Cup.
Swimming is clearly a sport she is passionate about. When she was only two, Missy was on holiday swimming in the Pacific Ocean, wearing flippers and a snorkel, and saw 2 fish and took off after them. Fortunately her dad Richard caught her. Missy Franklin went to Regis Jesuit High School in Colorado and she joined the school swim team. She said she tried to be a normal teenage girl but it's hard being an Olympic gold medalist and being 6.1 feet at 17. Missy Franklin would go to swimming training for 2 hours at 4:00 in the morning. Right now Missy is the best female swimmer in the world and has 5 gold medals and countless silver and bronze.
