by Inwinder from Brampton

Early Life

Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 at Porbandar in India and died on 1948 at New Delhi. His full name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He graduated from  Samaldas College at Bhavnagar, Gujarat and got degree from University of London. From childhood he was he was against the non-violence. Moreover, he was the greatest example of simplicity who spent his whole life in the hope of freedom. Today India is independent because Mahatma Gandhi he had played very important role make India independent.

Accomplishments

He fought for his country India because he was against the non-violence and slavery. He went to the London to study Law and fight against non-violence. After that he became one of the spiritual leader of his time. In his time their was lots of discrimination and disobedience among the people. He helped lots of poor farmers and saved them from usual taxes.  He struggled to alleviate poverty, liberate women and put an end to caste discrimination, with the ultimate objective being self-rule for India. He shown foreigners that what single person can do by doing the march at Delhi.

Qualities

Mahatma Gandhi was truthful and cool minded person. His courage, facing armed opponents with non-violence. Ready to face pain, persecution, and physical violence for the sake of truth and justice. His thin frail body had more power than all the bulk and muscles put together of a hundred Arnold Schwarzeneggers. The one good quality Of Mahatma Gandhi which has inspired me a lot is renunciation or detachment to the worldly things & pleasures.

Experience

He spent most of his life in the service of people. First, he went to Africa and he became lawyer at the age of 24 and left that at age of 45. That years he spent in Africa were the most crucial years in his life. And he was discriminated by other peoples because of his skins colour.

And then he went to London. He spent lavishly on clothes on learning to ape the English aristocratic way of life. But that changed once he realised that his family had to make many sacrifices to enable him to live in this fashion. He was not happy about this and so immediately began to curb his spending. He began by carefully maintaining his accounts recording every cent he spent. And he sold his all written articles at very cheap price.

Interesting Facts

The interesting things of Mahatma Gandhi are that he spent his life fighting against for freedom of India without worrying about his family's future and sacrificed his life for the Indian people. Today also Mahatma Gandhi have place in every Indian's heart because of his sacrifices. For Indians one time he travelled 300 km by walking to save farmers from paying unusual taxes. Really he was the great hero of India. I have chosen this person because where I stand today is only by his sacrifice.
