Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi

He was born on October 2, 1869. He died on January 30, 1948 at the age of 78. His name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He is my hero. Gandhi was a positive role model. He helped change the world for the better, he worked hard to keep people safe and Gandhi also didn’t give up when things got hard. Those are reasons for Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi to be looked up to and admired.

Gandhi was a positive role model and helped change the world for the better. He protested against violence and he also organized protests with peasants, farmers, and urban laborers. They felt the land tax was too high because they did not have enough money to pay for it.

The Caste System was something unfair in India and you could not get out of it. There were four classes you could be born into: outcastes, merchants, soldiers, and priests. Outcastes are the lowest level. Unlike America, where if you are a hard worker you could move up in the Caste System in India you had to stay where you were. You can’t marry people in a different class than you either. Gandhi was born into the merchant class.

When Gandhi was in Natal, he was also subjected to discrimination. He once was thrown off a railway compartment. That made him want to fight injustice and for his rights as an Indian even harder. In 1924 he organized a march against British Salt Tax. He also made his own salt by evaporating sea water. He was arrested for it.

But all the while Gandhi did these things he never once raised a hand against anybody. Gandhi was extremely non-violent. Sometimes when people protest, they throw things and scream. But Gandhi never once did that. He was very calm and rational. By doing these things he inspired Martin Luther King Jr. I admire him for protesting over and over even though sometimes he got arrested.

In 1913 hundreds of Indians (women too) went to jail, and many Indian workers went to prison, were whipped, and even shot at. But the Indians kept fighting. It was horrible for the Indians, but bad advertisement for the South African government because they were the ones doing it. That was Gandhi’s goal. To make the African government look bad. Unfortunately many Indians were injured or sometimes killed. They were mourned but they also helped stop discrimination. Also, even after others died people didn’t give up. The biggest reason they died was the punishment after they were captured. Eventually, the people who had lost their lives, as well as the people who had survived, made an impact. All those deaths had made the African government look bad. They didn’t seem so great anymore. And that is what he, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, had hoped for.

Those are some reasons Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi is my hero. He was brave to face all that and courageous to keep protesting. He was admired by other people because of all he did. If everyone was like him the world could be better. Unfortunately he was assassinated January 30, 1948. But his impact on the world will remain. That is why Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi is my hero.
