Have you heard the quote, ”You must be the person you wish to see in the world.” If you have, I bet you don’t know who wrote it. Let me tell you, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. My hero is Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He is a hero to India and other parts of the world. Humans can be heroes without being Spiderman, or Batman. This is one of those people.
My hero, Mohandas Karamcand Gandhi, lived in Porbander in Western India, Gujarat. He was born there and he was born on October 2, 1869. His father, Karamchand Gandhi, was a prime minster. His mother, Putlibai, was Karamchand’s fourth wife. In 1888 Gandhi’s father died. Gandhi was 15. He traveled to London to become a lawyer in the same year. His father and mother always wanted to make him a lawyer. Later on, in 1906, he traveled to South Africa. He helped South Africa and saw people separated by race. This was a motive to fight for independence in India.
Later he married a woman named Kasturba. They had 4 children. When he came to India in 1922, he invested executive authority on behalf of the Indian National Congress. In 1922 he had a campaign of mass civil disobedience. Then the police came and took Gandhi away. He had to go to prison for 6 years, but after two years they released him because he needed an appendicitis operation. Again in 1942 he got arrested again. Britain arrested him in Bombay for two years in Aga Khan Palace. After 18 months of being in prison, his wife died. This time Gandhi couldn’t get out for his wife’s funeral. He fought for independence for India until August 15, 1947 at midnight.

My hero is a hero for all time. I am relating this to The Hero’s Trial by T.A. Barron. A hero for all time shows all characteristics of a hero. Here are some of them. He was an inspiration to others because once he started to try to fight for independence lots of Indians did too! He was also a responsible person. For example when his group got arrested he came too. He had lots of bravery because he knew that if India lost the war he would die. He would also die if a weapon hit him, but he kept going. He kept fighting for India’s independence. It is hard to be honest all the time but Gandhi always told the truth, no matter what. He experienced many hardships from deaths, and being in jail. He showed heroism when he took leadership for Indian National Congress, which was risky.
All in all, Gandhi is a great hero. He has died, but is still remembered today. I hope you learned a lot and enjoyed reading this. Before you leave I would like to tell you something. Gandhi was shot and killed in New Delhi in 1948. His grave says, “Oh, Ram,” meaning Oh, god. Gandhi did a lot.
