Mia Hamm made a goal ((Lela London)) |
Mia Hamm is my hero because she played soccer. She was so amazing at playing soccer that other girls were amazed. Mia was the first girl in history to play soccer professionally. She inspired other girls to play soccer too. Mia won the World Cup and many trophies. She did many amazing things and did things other girls were probably scared to do.
Mia competed in the U.S. National Soccer Team for 17 years. She won a World Cup in 1991 and 1999. She won gold medals in 1996 and 2004. She had a world record for most International scored until June 2013. she was elected USA`s Athlete of the Year five years in a row from 1994 to 1998. In 2004 she and her teammate, Michelle Akers, were named on FIFA's list of 125 greatest soccer players.
At 1991 Mia was the first team member to win the World Cup when she was 19. Her mother was in the air force so she moved a lot. When she was 15 she was the youngest to play the national team. She went to Carolina University. She set the world record for 108 goals.
She was elected woman athlete of the year. She married her college sweetheart. They split in 2001 then she married a baseball professional. In 2004 she retired to start a new family. Her brother died from a blood disease.
I hope some day I will meet Mia. She was very inspiring.
