Don MIguel Hidalgo y Costilla

He was one of the greatest heroes of our country (MEXICO), he gave us liberty that was one of the most important things that we wanted, he broke the chains of slavery, he wanted to give us our own identity as Mexicans which at our present time we have not even obtained it.

Don Miguel Hidalgo was a Spaniard born in America. He was an excellent student and was very intelligent. When he was an old man he saw how the Spanish treated the Mexicans and he obviously didn´t like that idea. He conspired to plan about a rebellion and put in danger his life to do that. These things show that Don Miguel Hidalgo was a brave, good man and a “hero”.

For me he is a hero and for others he is a traitor, but we see in a positive way he saved us because he shouted in the church and warned to fight for our country and freedom.

When he took up arms he only began with 600 men but in time more people fought with him and won more territory. When he went to Saltillo he was betrayed and murdered at the Alondiga de Granaditas where his head was on one of the 4 corners.

For the Mexicans it was sad to see the “hero” had finally died but the battle continues and finally Mexico became independent. This show us that he never gave up until he died and finally obtained his dream.
