Magic Johnson

A true hero should be someone people can look up to. Magic Johnson is a good example of a hero. Magic Johnson was born on August 15th 1959 in Lansing, Michigan; he attended Michigan State University. After his legendary basketball career with the Lakers he became a philanthropist who made a foundation to help and educate those infected with AIDS. After Magic announced his AIDS infection in 1991, he has helped and inspired AIDS victims by supplying the money and help they need to discover a cure. Magic was much more than a great basketball player, he was a hero. He was always unselfish and considerate of others. Whether it was his teammates or AIDS victims around the world. He wants put others before himself. Magic Johnson is a hero because he was a leader, he was gifted, and thus for was inspirational to many people.

Magic Johnson is a hero because he showed true leadership throughout his legendary career. Magic Johnson's leadership skills have helped lead him and his teammates to accomplish great achievements in his NBA career. "As far as Johnson is concerned, basketball is an exacting sport that demands of its players hard work and diligence" ("Magic Johnson"). Magic Johnson had high expectations for his teammates and he worked hard to put in the extra effort during practices and games. Magic's extraordinary passion for the game led him to start his practice early so he was ready to push himself and his teammates. He then led to five NBA championships. Magic's passion and leadership skills led him to do great things not only for his team, but also for the world. "He turned his enthusiasm and leadership skills to business and philanthropy"("Earvin Johnson, Jr"). After Magic's career, his leadership led him to great things for AIDS victims by establishing a foundation to help and educate those infected with the disease. Magic Johnson has carried over his enthusiasm from playing basketball over to philanthropy, generously helping those AIDS victims in need. Magic Johnson had strong leadership skills that he possessed throughout his life, this is a trait that made him a true hero.

Magic Johnson was a gifted basketball player and had the body built for the sport, but it's he used it win that makes him a hero. Magic Johnson had a perfect basketball figure that helped him dominate other players on the court. "Johnson is a point guard, the basketball equivalent of a quarterback. He brings the ball upcourt, sets up the plays, runs the fast breaks. His height gives him an advantage over other guards, and his ability to determine in an instant how a play might develop" ("Magic Johnson"). Magic Johnson's height advantage gave him the edge in performance over other players in the league, which led Magic to become the hero he was at the time. Magic's height allowed him to see, pass, rebound, and shoot over shorter defenders, which made him a hero for the fans. "On the court, Johnson is unrivaled. His physical domination, unselfish no-look passes, and ability to assist and steal were apparent from his first games in Lansing, Michigan" ("The My Hero Project-Magic Johnson."). From day one starting in high school, Magic was something special. His tall height was a huge key to his successful career in basketball. t. Magic's impressive basketball talent and abilities were thanks to his height which aided him to become a winner and a hero. This led to his success and ultimately his heroic career helping many AIDS victims afterwards.

Magic Johnson is an inspiration to me because he had a passion that he devoted to everything in his life. Magic Johnson was far more than a basketball player, he was a hero who provided help and money to those victims who suffer AIDS. Magic had the height necessary to indeed dominate the game during his career. His talent paired with his impeccable leadership skills made him a superstar athlete in the NBA.  He funded and established the "Magic Johnson Foundation", which has been focused on finding a cure for AIDS. Magic's generosity is heartwarming to his fans and to those living with AIDS on a daily basis. He played with passion, he practiced with passion, he fought with passion, he helped others with passion, and he lived with passion. Magic Johnson is a hero not just because he won championships or because of his impressive statistics over his career. Magic Johnson is a true hero because of something that you won't find in his stat sheets or in an NBA record book. He is a true hero because of his devotion to help others. It's his generosity he shows towards helping those in need that makes him my hero.
