Mindy Karr

by Kenzie Taylor from Warsaw, Ohio

A hero doesn’t have to be someone famous who makes millions everyday. A hero can be anyone. A friend, a teacher, family, someone you’ve never even met and maybe never will. A hero should be someone who inspires you and pushes you to be the best you possibly can while supporting you all the way. A hero doesn’t always have to be someone good or someone that never makes mistakes. A hero doesn’t have to have super strength or super speed. A hero should be someone who you look up to and want to be exactly like. That’s exactly why my hero is, my mom.

My mom was born as Mindy Sue Compton. She enjoys spending time with her family and loves to have fun. Her favorite color is red and she loves animals. She was raised in Coshocton, Ohio and had one older sister. She went to South Lawn Elementary and graduated from Coshocton High School. My mom first attended college at OSU where she met my dad (even though they went to the same high school). She became a medical assistant and then she had me. Soon after, she and my dad split up, leaving my mom on her own. We lived on our own for quite a few years and during that time my mother met, Brent, who is now my step-father. When I was four years old she got married to Brent. Two years later we moved to Columbus.

My mom went back to college several times after that, trying to pursue several different careers but was never able to finish due to at home distractions, for example, my brother being born. When my brother was 2 years old we moved back to Coshocton and my mom went back to school for what was the final time. My mom is now currently working at a branch of the Coshocton Memorial Hospital as a medical sonographer. She has two kids, my brother and I, a loving husband, and an adorable puppy. My mom has faced a lot of things during her years and I’m sure will take on a lot more in her time.

My mom is my hero because she's been through so much and still stays positive and never lets anything slow her down. She's kind and caring and one of the overall nicest people you'll ever meet. My mom inspires me to strive to be my best and to never give up. She taught me to always treat others with respect and try to look at other people's point of view, not just your own. My mom is the one person that I want to be exactly like when I grow up. She is not just my mom, she's my best friend.

A hero doesn't have to be the number one athlete in the world or have to win a Nobel prize. A hero can be anyone, whether it's someone you know or not. A hero is someone that helps others and is who inspires you to be a better overall person. A hero doesn't have to save the world and all on it every day. It can just be a person that makes your day. My mom may not be a hero to all, but to me she is.
