Marc Kielburger

by Hana from London, Canada

My peacekeeper, lifesaver hero is Marc Kielburger. He was born in 1977 in Ontario. He went to school in Toronto, Ontario. Later, he went to Harvard University and became a lawyer. He decided to start three organizations to help young people.

The first organization that Marc Kielburger helped start is Free the Children. He started this with his brother Craig Kielburger in 1995. Craig was only 12 years old. Free the Children has done a lot of jobs to help children be treated fairly. For example, Free the Children helps to stop factories that make children work. They have done a lot to help children because they tell a lot of people about problems. With the help from lots of people, this group has built 400 schools for 35 000 children around the world.

The next organization is Me to We. Me to We is about thinking about yourself and helping others. Me to We was started by Marc and Craig Keilburger. This organization wants everyone to recycle and be kind to others. The Me to We books are printed on recycled paper to save a lot of water. Volunteers planted 80, 000 trees. Special guest speakers went to more than 400 schools to tell young people to help other people and be the best people they can be.

Leaders Today was started by Marc and Craig Keilburger. It teaches young people how to be a leader. Leaders Today started in 1999. Young people go to classes to learn about how to become a leader. They learn how to help family, friends, people in their cities and to help people all over the world. Every year, 350 000 young people go to Leader’s Today classes.

Here are some words to describe what I think he is. He helps people. He is not selfish. He believes in himself. He gives to people who are in poverty. This means that they do not have any food, money, toys, books, clothes. A lot of the people he helps are sick. He teaches other people to believe in themselves so they can do anything they want in life.
