Do you know of a man name Moshe Kraus? You may not because he is not really well known for his courageous work. He is responsible for one of the greatest rescue operations in history. He saved 40,000 to a shocking 100,000 Jewish prisoners in concentration camps. Without his bravery and work many more people could have been killed in the Holocaust.
Moshe Kraus was born in 1908. He died on 1986 in Jerusalem. He helped save many Jewish prisoner from concentration camps. He helped them by giving them fake documents stating they weren't Jewish. He went and gave it to Jewish prisoners and Jewish hiders.
In Moshe Kraus's journey he had recovered documents and met friends. On April 1944 Moshe Kraus got a hold of a 32 page report that described life in a concentration camp. It was written by escaped prisoners of Auschwitz. Moshe Kraus then met a man name Carl Lutz. Carl Lutz helped Moshe make individual documents into fake family documents to help save more people.
Moshe Kraus had a big enemy. This enemy was the Nazis. If the Nazis caught or found him making fake documents to save Jewish prisoners, he could have been killed. Another enemy was Hitler. If Hitler were find out Moshe was making fake documents he could have sent Nazi security. He could have Nazi soldiers everywhere and checking door to door.
Though Moshe Kraus had a contribution and a brave attitude, he was not recognized for his work. Carl Lutz was awarded and recognized for his part of the work. Though Carl Lutz knew that he could not have done his work without Moshe Kraus to help him. Carl Lutz was the only one to honored Moshe Kraus and his contribution.
