Marquis Lafayette (http://www.fhsclassmates.com/images/la_fayette.jpg) |
My hero is Marquis Lafayette. He is my hero, because he did many things for the United States of America during the American Revolution. He was born on September 6th in 1757. He died on May 20 in 1834 it was a sad day. He was in the Continental Army under George Washington. He was also involved in the French Revolution. He was very helpful to us. He was born in Auvergne. Auvergne is a province in South of France. Marquis Lafayette was an aristocrat and a Military officer; he even went to a college for aristocrats.
He was injured in the Battle of Brandywine. The Battle of Brandywine is also known as the Battle of Brandywine Creek. This battle was during the Revolutionary War. In the end, the British won because the Americans left the revolutionary capital (Philadelphia) unguarded. The reason they left Philadelphia unguarded was because they were fighting a war in Pennsylvania and forgot about the capital. Marquis Lafayette fought valiantly in this battle. The loss was very sad.
Another war that Marquis Lafayette fought was the Battle of Rhode Island. This battle was also known as the battle of Quaker Hill. This battle took place on August 29, 1778. The battle was an attempt to recapture the state of Rhode Island. The army had to give up and retreat to Narragansett Bay. The Battle was very close.
When Marquis Lafayette was going back to France the war was still going on. Marquis returned to France because he had to negotiate a problem which was an increased French commitment. On his way back he blocked off tons of troops led by Charles Cornwallis. Charles Cornwallis was a British army officer. In India he served as a governor general. Marquis Lafayette helped a lot by blocking Charles off. The victory was thought to be the end of the war, but they were wrong.
Marquis Lafayette was a true hero of the revolution. Marquis Lafayette died because of pneumonia. Pneumonia is when water gets in your lungs. The reason he got pneumonia was because it was winter and wet. Marquis Lafayette was a true hero.
