Luttrell shows resilience by being able to fight through the pain from his injuries during the war and continue to live a normal everyday life. This is one way of showing how he is resilient. "The group repeated the exercise several times, and each time they failed to stay together" (ACUC). This is when he was a teen when he, his brother and other kids in the neighborhood would get trained by a Vietnam War soldier during the summer to prepare them for joining the military. He made them do 300 push ups and at 200 they wouldn't be synchronized while doing pushups. So the guy that was coaching them would make them start over till they got them done right. This shows how he bounced back from losing his friends. "Luttrell's three comrades--Lieutenant Michael Murphy, Sonar Technician Second Class Matthew Axelson, and Gunner's Mate Second Class Danny Dietz--all died heroically"(Marcus Luttrell) He bounced back from losing his friends by naming his dog DASY after the four of them. D- Danny Dietz, A- Matthew "axe" Axelson,S- Marcus "Southern Boy" Luttrell, Y- Michael "Yankee" Murphy. This is how Marcus Luttrell shows resilience and how he has used it in his life.

Luttrell and his three friends (unklt.wordpress.com ()) |
Luttrell is also very brave, he has pushed through the pain from his injuries and even during Operation Red Wings he endured the pain to get back to safety. This shows how he is brave, by reliving the dreadful moments from the war."recounting of the terrible moments when he realized that his friends--his brothers--had been killed."(ACUC). He had to relive the moments when he was on that mountain fighting for his country, to save himself as well as his friends. He had to relive them because he had to help Peter Berg with the movie Lone Survivor and he also wrote a book named Lone Survivor with Patrick Robinson. This is the philosophy of the Navy Seals," I will never quit. I persevere and thrive on adversity. My nation expects me to be physically harder and mentally stronger than my enemies. If knocked down, I will get back up, every time. I will draw an every remaining ounce of strength to protect my teammates and to accomplish our mission. I am never out of the fight." (Luttrell, Marcus) This shows what the Navy Seals live by and what they follow during combat. This shows how he is brave because when he was faced with danger and got knocked down he got right back up and continued fighting no matter how bad it hurt. This is why and how Marcus is brave and why he is considered a hero.
Marcus Luttrell is an hero because when he is faced with troubles he gets back up and he keeps on going and that is what I like about him, he never stops."Luttrell ponders the reasons why some respond to the call of war, knowingly placing their lives at risk and placing burdens on their family" (Marcus Luttrell) This made me realize that people do this to show to themselves and the people that thought that they couldn't do it that they can. But not everyone joins the military, for that reason a lot of people join the military because they know that it will benefit their country.
