Marcus Luttrell was a Navy SEAL and sniper. The reason he is my hero is his courage and bravery is outstanding. He is also very selfless because no matter what happened, he would always take a bullet for his team. His mental and physical strength is stronger than anyone else that I know of. Marcus Luttrell is also a devout Christian who helps with retreats and talks at Christian events. He inspires me to share my faith even when it seems like there is no good in the world. The first time I heard of him was when I read his book "Lone Survivor". His book inspired me to be a better person even when I feel that I am down and can't help or do any good. He showed me that you can always do good and there is no reason to give up on something that you want. He also talks all around the U.S. about perseverance and not giving up in times of struggle.

He participated in many missions, but his most known mission was with SEAL Team 10. The team was sent out to scout a known terrorist that they had been hunting for two years, but hadn't been able to pinpoint. They were dropped down into harsh, mountainous terrain and had to trek to where the terrorist was suspected to be. Once they got there, they sat down and waited until he would peek out, but a goat herder and his son stumbled upon the soldiers. After they decided to let them go instead of killing them, the herder ran down to the village. It wasn't long until they were surrounded on every side by Taliban. A huge firefight broke out and the only direction the four soldiers had to go was down. Murphy, Axe and Dietz, the other three SEALs were killed by shooters and RPG's as well as a helicopter that was taken down by RPG. Marcus Luttrell was the only survivor of the attack and was helped back to safe ground by a village of Afghans (Lone Survivor). He sustained many injuries such as bullet wounds and a broken neck for which he received a Purple Heart (BUDs talk). Since then, he took one more tour where both of his knees were blown out causing him to retire. He says "Retiring was the hardest thing I ever had to do" because he knew that is what he always wanted to do.
