| One of Meg's types of cancers |
My definition of a hero is someone who is strong in many different ways. They can also help their environment and community by volunteering and standing out from the crowd. They could also be someone who had been suffering, but has been very resilient and has kept going no matter what the risk or trials. All these types of people make you feel good somehow. Either they help you, they inspire you, or they make you want to live just because of their presence. They are like a fuel that makes your body run. Someone who might make you feel warm and fuzzy inside like an aunt, uncle, relative, or friend. My hero is someone I met when I was coming home from fishing at the river one day and she introduced herself to me in a very warm and inviting way. My hero is Meg Maggart from Hilliard, Ohio who has suffered from two cancer diagnoses in a lifetime and has lived through one, and is in the middle of the other.
Meg Maggart has been in the paper a couple times for various things. She was interviewed by the paper once because she was in very critical condition when I was collecting shoes for Haiti and the reporter for the paper came over to our house and gave me and my sister an interview for the cover article in the newspaper. After the interview my mom started to talk to our interviewer from the paper about Meg. She told him about the fact that she had Ovarian Cancer, she had 4 dogs, and it was a very inspiring story of a woman in Ohio who had gone through a lot in her lifetime. So a couple weeks later, my dad was reading the paper and he found the article on Meg. The newspaper man went and interviewed her!!! I was so happy for her! I was glad that she had finally shared her life story. Her pains, her losses, and her truthful struggle to survive.
Today she lives with Marty Maggart, her dogs Matilda and Oden Maggart, and the spirits of her old dogs Murphy and Max as she takes flight enjoying all the happy things in life while she can in Hilliard, OH. Meg likes to make jewelry and play with her dogs in her spare time. With all the money she makes from her jewelry, she donates to the Ovarian Cancer Awareness Society to help doctors, surgeons, or anyone else who could help find a cure for her cancer.
Meg is one of my many heroes. I chose her because she inspires me in many ways in life.
