"If you dance with your heart, your body will follow."-Mia Michaels

My career hero that I chose is Mia Michaels; she is a dance choreographer. A dance choreographer is someone who puts dance moves together to create a complete performance. This career interests me because I am a dancer, and I have been dancing since I was three years old. Mia creates beautiful, inspiring, strong pieces of dance. Mia inspires me in many ways, not only as a dancer but as a fighter. Mia fought cancer on and off for several years and eventually beat it. What attracts me about becoming a dance choreographer is that one day, I could touch people with my work and help someone with something they are struggling with. Also, you get to work with new people throughout the job, you get to travel, and I would get to do what I love every day.

Being a choreographer means that you put different dance steps all together and create a dance, then you teach the dance to people who will eventually perform the dance somewhere. This job requires many tasks. You obviously need to be able to dance, and you also need to be able to see the vision of your dance. Training requirements are needed because you can't just become a dance choreographer if you've never taken dance classes, because you wouldn't know any steps. Although being a dance choreographer is my dream, only few choreographers make enough money to live off of. Being a choreographer you also need to be able to understand more than one dance style. You can't just know contemporary, you need to be able to understand ballroom, hip hop, jazz, ballet, and various others. If I was not able to become a dance choreographer, I would want to have an occupation that involved dance somehow. !

According to the Huffington Post website, Mia grew up in a family of dancers. Everyone in her life was either a dance choreographer or a professional dancer. Her father even owned his own dance studio. As she grew up, she started having problems with her body image. She always felt she was too fat and not good enough. She had to deal with that for a long period of her life. Once, she became old enough she opened up her own dance company. She didn't care your size, your skin color, or your gender. All she cared about was your ability to dance and how well you danced. "If you dance with your heart, your body will follow."-Mia Michaels.

My hero, Mia Michaels, contributes to the community by creating beautiful pieces of art that inspire people to never give up. She volunteers at a dance convention called The Pulse. The Pule is a dance convention where you are dancing all day, non-stop. You get to learn new dances and meet new people. She also used to be a judge and choreographer on the show "So You Think You Can Dance." That show is a big dance competition and it is a one in a lifetime chance to show off your skills to the whole world. She helps with the community that way by, teaching new things to dancers.

My high school goals to get me where I need to be when I am older are to take all of the educational classes needed to get into the college of my dreams. I am taking dance classes to improve my dance skills. I am going to be on the song team at my school next year, which gives me the chance to grow even more in my dance career. Throughout college I hope to have the chance to have an internship as a dance choreographer. My lifetime goal is to be a successful dance choreographer
