"Religion is a candle inside a multicolored lantern. Everyone looks through a particular color, but the candle is always there." This was a quote by a famous Egyptian man called Mohamed Naguib. Mohamed Naguib was a great man who had a vision and cared for his country. He had made such a huge change in the government of Egypt and did what he thought and knew was right for Egypt.
He was born in 1901 in Khartoum, Sudan's capital. He became a soldier in the Egyptian army and in time he became the general. He then led his troops to the revolution in 1952. He took the monarchy away from King Farouk and it was declared that Egypt became a republic in 1953. He became the first president upon the declaration but his presidency ended a year later in 1954.
Mohamed Naguib made a difference in Egypt in a few ways. One way was that he. along with Gamal Abd El Nasser, Abd El Lateef El Boughdady, Anwar El Sadat and Field Marshall Aamir, forced King Farouk out of the country. This ended the monarchy in Egypt, made Egypt a republic and made Mohamed Naguib president which are other ways in which he made a difference. He felt that Egypt needed a change and that is what he gave us.
Even though it seems that he had done a lot during the revolution and before his presidency, he hadn't had enough time to affect Egypt during his presidency. After his presidency he was put under house arrest throughout Gamal Abd El Nasser because he had had ideas that went against what the freedom soldiers (as said in Arabic) had wanted to do which made them angry. He was released after Gamal Abd El Nasser's death in 1971. After his release he had supported Anwar El Sadat's presidency until his death in 1984 in Cairo, Egypt.
This is why Mohamed Naguib was a good leader who showed nothing but care for his country. He had a vision and determination which allowed him to reach his goal. He was also against racism towards religion like many culture heroes and it is shown in his quote. This is why he was my hero and a hero to many others.
