Michael Fred Phelps II was born June 30, 1985 in Baltimore, Maryland. He is mainly known for being the most decorated Olympian of all time winning 28 medal in total. We has won 2 bronze 3 silver and 23 gold medals. He played in the Olympics from 2000 to 2016 when he left the Olympics at the age of 30.

Michael was born in Baltimore, Maryland and raised in the Rodgers Forge neighborhood of nearby Towson. He attended Rodgers Forge Elementary, Dumbarton Middle School, and Towson High School. He is the youngest of his sisters. His youngest sister is Hilary Phelps, born 1980, founded her own Media Company,GJ Media Group. A company make to spread joy. His oldest sister, Whitney Phelps, born 1978, also is a very successful swimmer. His mother Debbie Phelps and father Michael Phelps divorced in 1994 resulting in Michael living with his mother when growing up where they grew very close to each other.

He began swimming with his sister in this local swim team. At the age of 7, Phelps was still "a little scared" to put his head under the water, his instructor allowed him to float around on his back and not surprisingly, his first mastered stroke was backstroke. After seeing swimmers in the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta, Phelps began to dream of becoming a swimming champion. He started his swim career at the Loyola High School Pool. He met his coach, Bob Bowman, when he started training at the North Baltimore Aquatic Center. His coach saw the talents he had and started an intense training regime together. By 1999 he made it to the U.S. National B Team.

At the age of 15, Phelps became the youngest American male swimmer to compete at the Olympics Games in 68 Years. In 2001 he set the world record for the 200 meter butterfly, becoming the first male swimmer in history to ever set a world record. Then breaking his own record in 201 World Championships with a time of 1:54:58 earning his first international medal. Phelps continued to set records at during the 2002 U.S. Summer Nationals with a 400 meter individual medley., and new U.S. records in the 100 meter butterfly and the 200 meter individual. The following year, he broke his own world record in the 400 meter individual medley. He shortly graduated from Towson in 2003 as a 17 year old with five world records.

Phelps started to become a superstar at this point. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, winning eight medals, six of them gold. Phelps continued to make world records at the 2006 Pan Pacific Championships and 2007 World Championships. At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China he won 14 career gold medal, the most gold won by any Olympian. In 2012, Phelps's increased to 22. After the London Olympics, Phelps announced he was retiring from his sport, however he came back for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. At the 2016 Olympics he increased his medal count to a total of 28 medals. After the Olympics he has retired from his swimming career. He currently has a wife, Nicole Phelps, and a baby boy, Boomer.
