Marco...Polo. Have you ever heard of the game Marco Polo? If you have did you know that it was named after the explorer Marco Polo? He traveled from Venice, Italy all the way to what is know called China (that's over 33,000 miles). Marco Polo was the only explorer that kept a journal that was made into a book called El Milione. He was in a jail when his friend wrote with him. How weird. That's just one of the weird things he did.

When Marco Polo was a small boy his mother died, so his aunt and uncle raised him. He was trained to be a merchant like his father. Marco's dad met the emperor Kublai Khan on his journey. Marco was seventeen when his dad got a message to return to Khan. This time the journey included Marco Polo.

Marco Polo's journey took about 4 years. One year was spent by him recuperating from illness. He crossed the Gobi Desert and climbed Mt. Pamir. Not a lot of people went where he was going. The emperor Kublai Khan wanted holy water and some other things. Marco took a long time to get to Khan's palace.

When Marco returned to Venice no one thought that it was him. No one thought that it was him because "a lot of people did not live that long" said the encyclopedia.

Marco Polo was in jail because his country lost a war. He met a man named Rustichello. Rustichello wrote a book about Marco's travels. This book is called EL MILIONE. This books title means a million lies. Some people say tis but some do believe that it is true. This book was hand written because they did not have computers to write with. In conclusion, Marco Polo's mom died when he was young. He went on amazing adventure and was sick for a whole year. He met the greatest emperor of that time. Marco Polo even wrote a book in jail! Marco Polo had a great life and now we all know it. Marco's book showed many cultures and all about his adventures.
