Mariano Rivera
by Parker from San Diego
My hero is Mariano Rivera because he is a great baseball player and helps children in Panama get off the streets and have a better education. Mariano is famous for his baseball skills and helping kids in Panama through the Mariano Rivera foundation. I want to be like him someday. I would like to be him because of his baseball talents and of what he does off the field. I hope he recognizes how great he is off the field.
Mariano Rivera is my hero because he is not only a great baseball player, but he also supports kids in Panama through the Mariano Rivera foundation. Mariano's foundation supports many causes. A few of them focus on education. Mariano Rivera is giving kids a chance at a good education I think this is a great because he is doing something for his community in Panama. He is an inspiration to a lot of people in the US and the rest of the world because of his pitching in what he does in Panama. Mariano's foundation also focuses on health. What he is doing for health is helping out with building hospitals and caring for the environment. This is great because he cares for people and wants to help them. I believe he is doing the right thing for his community. I think everyone in Panama will be grateful of what Mariano Rivera does.
Mariano is my hero because he also has great faith and fame. On and off the mound you can see examples of Mariano's faith. He expresses his faith in Panama by building churches. I think he is doing the right thing because he is helping kids and getting them off the streets. If the parents of the kids have to work, the foundation will help the kids feel welcome. He was discovered in Panama by the Yankees scouts when he was 19 years old. He is known for his cutter (which is a fastball that cuts late) and how many bats he has broken. I think he is the best closer in all of baseball because of how good his pitches are and how effective they are. He deserves to be in the Hall of Fame because he has the most saves for a closer. Mariano is looked up to by everyone in the MLB because of what he does plus who he is as a person.
Mariano has many successes and failures. Most of his successes and failures are in the MLB. Even though he has the most saves in the MLB, he has failed many times before. Some of his successes are winning the World Series five times and receiving the MVP award at the All-Star game in 2013. Some failures are giving up the world series ending one 2001 and losing the ALCS in 2004 to the Red Sox. His injury in 2012 was very heartbreaking for me because that could be the end of his career. He completely tore his ACL and was out for the season. At the time he thought it was going to be a career ending injury. But Mariano never gave up and continued his career in 2013. The same year, he had the most saves and was named "comeback player of the year" by the MLB. He is very brave and is a hard-working person to come back and succeed.
Mariano Rivera is my hero because of what he does on and off the field. He is an inspiration to me and other people around the world. Some people don't know what he does off the field and I would like to tell them about it. What Mariano Rivera does with his fame and fortune is use it to help people in Panama with their education, health etc. People that live in Panama appreciate what he's doing to help them out. Everybody in Panama knows who he is. So to all of this we thank you Mariano Rivera for being such a great hero.
