Ellen DeGeneres once said,"Here are the values that I stand for: honesty, equality, kindness, compassion, treating people the way you want to be treated and helping those in need. To me, those are traditional values". Misty K. Snow embodies these values through word, and more importantly, action. Snow fights for the planet, the rights of the people in her state, and social change in general.

Misty K. Snow was born in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1985, and has lived there her whole life. Snow works as a cashier at the local Harmon's Grocery, as does her mother. She began living openly as a transgender woman in the summer of 2014, when she began taking hormone treatments. In the most recent election cycle, Snow felt that no candidate represented the values she believed in: a higher minimum wage, paid maternity leave, equal rights for women and LGBT members, and working to stop global warming. Deciding not to wait around for a better option, Snow decided to start her first political campaign, running for Utah senator. Along the course of her campaign she advocated for immigration reform, an end to gun violence, higher education for all, and much more. As someone who was raised in a working class family, Snow felt she could better represent the people of Utah than her opponent, who she said she "...thought he was wrong on almost all the issues I care about" (Schreer 9). Snow won the Democratic primary in her state, however, she lost in the general election.

Misty K. Snow believes strongly in using reusable and clean energy in order to make sure that we are keeping the air clean. In the Utah Senate debate last year, Snow stated that "The issue of climate change is an important one. Despite what Senator Lee said, climate change is real, but even if you do not believe climate change is real, in the state of Utah, we have a problem with air quality". Snow is a hero because she is fighting to take care of the planet, and encouraging others to do the same. On her website Snow states that "The poor air quality is extremely dangerous for people with heart or lung problems, and new research shows that the bad air can also be harmful to pregnant women and developing fetuses"(Clean, Renewable Energy 1). Snow brought attention to the issues that air pollution can cause, not just to the planet, but also to people. Misty K. Snow is a hero because she fights for a better world and a better quality of life on our planet.

Through hard work and dedication, Snow was able to make it farther than she ever thought she would. In an interview with Robert Schreer, Snow was asked if she thought being transgender was the reason she won the primaries, she responded saying that ,"Far more focus is on the fact that I work in a grocery store". Snow works a low paying job, and continued to throughout her campaign, using her vacation days. This shows her will and determination, both of which are traits of a hero. In today's world it is easy to feel frustrated by the current politics, however it is not as easy to stand up and do something about it. Regardless, that is exactly what Misty K. Snow did. Snow began her first political campaign and worked to represent her supporters, and their values. In the biography on her website Snow said that "I will advocate on behalf of the working class, women, people of color, and the LGBT community instead of representing the greed of corporations". Snow fights for people of all communities, specifically those that are targeted by discrimination. She is a hero because she spoke strongly about equality for all. Snow won the Democratic primary in Utah, showing that she stood for what the voters of her party truly believed in.

Snow made it a long way with passion for her cause, and commitment to making a difference. I believe Misty K. Snow is a hero because of her willpower and care for all people. Snow inspires me to help others and continue to help the planet by recycling, saving water, picking up trash, and walking or biking instead of driving to nearby places. Everybody should help others who are in need and fight for the rights of their fellow citizens. Misty K. Snow can lead some of these movements and bring attention to these causes, but her true heroic trait is her ability to inspire others to help the world.
