In 1928 Mother Teresa began her life as a nun. She went to a convent in Ireland and began her work there. In 1929, she officially joined the Sisters of Loreto and changed her name to Teresa after St. Teresa of Avila. When she did that, she moved to Calcutta, India to begin her service as a teacher. She taught at a school for girls called St.Mary’s for 15 years. In 1946, she decided she wanted to do more for Calcutta. Two years later she helped the poor living on the streets and even opened many missions and clinics. She founded the Missionaries of Charity. This was a program designed to help the poorest of people in the world. There are over 600 missionaries all over the world. She did all this work until she died on September 7, 1997.

Mother Teresa traveled to many places. She originally was from Macedonia. After becoming a nun, Mother Teresa traveled to Ireland to learn English and to India to join a convent. She spent the majority of her time in India, helping the poor. Her title is Blessed Teresa of Calcutta due to the fact that Calcutta is where she spent many years helping people.
Mother Teresa lived in the 20th century. She lived during a time where poor people were in great need of help and support. From the time that she was born in 1910 to the time of her death in 1997, Mother Teresa lived a spiritual life filled with service and charity.
