Madeleine closing the gate

Madeleine de Vercheres was born on March 3, 1678 in New France, Quebec. She was, "brave, helpful and a great leader." Madeleine died at the age of 69. Her statue is known as the "Canadian" Statue of Liberty.

Madeleine showed that she was very brave when she protected her dad's fort, "Fort Vercheres" at the age of 14, while her parents were away. The surprise attack from the Iroquois Indians lasted 8 days, so Madeleine did not eat or sleep for 8 days. She is helpful because she helped the people inside the fort stay safe. She was a great leader because she didn't give up and that's how she led the fort to victory!

I can be a leader by guiding others the right way and away from wrong. I was a leader to my brothers Curtis and James when I helped them in a power outage. They were scared but I got a flashlight and stayed with them. That is why I was brave, helpful and a great leader at the same time.

Madeleine de Vercheres is my hero because she taught me to never give up and to put others before you. I think we all should be brave, helpful and a great leader just like Madeleine.
