Malala Yousafzai was shot in the head by a Taliban man and survived. Malala grew up in Mingora, Pakistan where the Taliban have infiltrated and bombed girl's schools as they tried to take control. Ever since she was young, Malala has spoken out for educating women. Her speeches and blog posts made her a target to the Taliban, which resulted in her getting shot in the head. She was then transported to a hospital in the UK, where she survived and continues promoting education rights for women. Malala is a hero because she is passionate about education, she was shot in the head because of her passion, and she continues to do speeches despite the Taliban's countless death threats.

Malala is a passionate advocate for women's rights for education. She believes that no one is allowed to take away her right to learn. She gave a speech in Peshawar, Pakistan in September 2008 called "How Dare the Taliban Take Away my Basic Right to Education?" As Malala began to become more well known, she started to get awards for her activism. She won the International Children's Peace and Pakistan's National Youth Peace Prize in 2011. Since she was becoming more well known, the Taliban made a death threats towards her. Despite these threats, Malala continued her campaign (Kettler 1)

Malala was targeted by the Taliban because she was speaking out for women's education rights. Malala and her family didn't think that they would harm her, since she was just a child. She was more worried about her father's safety, seeing that he is an anti-Taliban activist. So she continued to go to school and speak out because she didn't feel like she was in danger, she was just a frightened. Despite what everyone thought, Malala was shot in the head on the on her way home a year later (Kettler 2).

After surviving and recovering from the shooting, Malala continued with even more dedication for her campaign. She has started a program called the Malala Fund, and with it, she has funded schools for refugee girls. Also, she travels around the world to give speeches about women's rights and she pressed for actions to be taken to free girls held in captivity by Boko Haram Islamist. Malala has written an autobiography and there has been a documentary created to " give viewers an intimate look into the life of Malala, her family, and her commitment to supporting education for girls around the world" (insert title here). Because of this commitment, Malala has been the youngest person (at just 17 years old) to win the Nobel Peace Prize. (Kettler 3)

In conclusion, Malala is a hero to many girls around the world. She passionate about her work and that is shown through by her speeches and writings in the BBC blog while under the Taliban's rule. She was shot because of how outspoken she is about how women have a right to have education. To this day Malala continues to work twice as hard to vocalize the right for women to have education; despite the death threats and suffering getting shot in the head.
