Mark Inglis is a hero because he lost his legs from knee down due to frostbite after he was trapped for two weeks near the summit of New Zealand's highest mountain, Mount Cook, in 1982. He also saved two people's lives when they were stuck in an ice cave.
Mark has been in the paralympics as a cyclist and won a silver medal in the 1 km time trial at the Sydney games. He has climbed many mountains but the major mountains are Mount Cook in 2002, Cho Oyu in 2004 and Mount Everest in 2006. Before he climbed Mount Cook he did research at the Christchurch hospital. After working as a researcher he worked at Montanna Wine company. Before working at christchurch he worked as a SAR mountainer at Mount Cook. He is now working as a motivational speaker all over New Zealand. He went to Geraldine High school in 1971 to 1977. He then went on to Linchon Universety and recieved honours in Biochemestry.
He has started up a charity called Limbs4all. Since he lost his legs he is now helping other people that have lost their limbs. To raise money for the people that have lost their limbs they fundraise and a lot of people donate money to help in any way they can. Mark helps the group by going on fundraiser walks.
Mark is now living in Hanmer Springs with his wife Anne and three children Lucy, Jeremy and Amanda. He is the youngest of three and his mum's name is Mary and Dad's is Jim.
