My hero Michael Jordan is one of the best basketball players to ever play the game. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 17, 1963. He grew up with four siblings; his older siblings were Larry, James and Deloris. He had a little sister named Roslyn too. Jordan’s my hero because he is fearless and persistent and grew up with a hard life but managed to make it far.

Michael Jordan hadn’t expressed his full basketball talent until high school. Jordan went to Laney High School in Wilmington, NC. At first, he was cut from the team as a sophomore, but he kept working at it and made the team the following year. Michael got a basketball scholarship and attended the University of North Carolina.

In fact, Jordan had skipped his senior year at North Carolina and went to the National Basketball Association. The Chicago Bulls drafted Michael in 1984. He was 6 feet, 6 inches tall and 216 lbs. Michael was so good that he led the Bulls to six NBA championships. But in 1994 one of the most devastating things happened to Jordan. After winning his third championship, his father was murdered while taking a nap in his car on the way back from one of his games.

The death of his father had caused Jordan to turn away from basketball because he felt no reason to play anymore. He had decided to play baseball. He signed a deal with the Chicago White Sox and was assigned to the Birmingham Barons. He played the outfielder position, but he did not have the best batting average. By November 1994, there was a life size statue created of Jordan. Then his jersey number was retired. On March 18, 1995, Michael had announced he would play basketball again.

This time, Jordan was out to prove that he was the best there is. He led the Bulls to a 72-10 record. The best record in NBA history. Later on, he and his team won three more NBA championships and repeated a three peat. He fully retired in 2004 with amazing statistics and awards.

In addition to being a six-time NBA champion. He was a five time NBA MVP, and he was the defensive player of the year in 1988. Michael was elected Rookie of the Year in 1985. He has two Olympic gold medals, and was a fourteen time All Star MVP. Michael Jordan is considered one of the fifty greatest players of the NBA.

Michael Jordan is my hero because he took so much time to improve his basketball skills. Also, he was such an inspiring and amazing person. He was so passionate about the game that he felt the need to get back on the court even after his father had died. I think Michael Jeffrey Jordan is the best basketball player to ever play in the NBA and many would agree.
