Mario's talent was first seen when he was at the young age of four. He was seen blowing past older players, deking the goalie, and scoring. When he was six he won the MVP at a provincial tournament. When he was sixteen he played junior hockey in the Quebec Major Junoir Hockey League. In 1984 Mario was drafted first in the first round by the Pittsburgh Penguins. He was diagnosed with Hogkins Disease on January of 1993. He overcame it and played the 2000-06 seasons. He then retired and Mario's number, 66, was retired into Mellon Arena where it will be Honored by all Penguin fans, players, and coaches forevermore.
Mario accomplished many things in his career. He got to be the captain of the team for most of his career. In his rookie year, he lead the Penguins from last to back-to-back Stanley Cup titles. He won many awards such as the Rookie of the Year, three MVPs, NHL plus/minus leader(you get pus one if you're on the ice when your team scores and minus one if the other team scores), and two playoff MVPs. He had 1494 points in his career. 613 of them were goals and 881 of them were assists. He got thirty-nine hat tricks in his career and scored on 114 goalies.

Mario demonstrated many forms of heroism during his career. One example was bravery. He was diagnosed with Hogkins desease but came back to the NHL when he still wasn't fully recovered. Mario also demonstrated leadership by being captain of the Penguins for every year he played after his debut season in the NHL. He is a great role-model for all hockey players including Sidney Crosby, center, and Marc-Andre Fleury, goalie, future Hall of Famers.

We all will miss you Mario (http://members.tripod.com/~WOLFIELUC/mario.html) |
Mario Lemeiux is still alive today. Although he is retired, he could not let go of the sport. Mario is the current chairman of the Penguins. His Hogkins is doing great and is showing no sign of coming back soon. He is married to Nathalie Asselin and has 3 kids,Lauren, Stephanie, Austin, and Alexa.
Mario Lemeiux proved that if you work hard you will go far in life. He demonstrated this many ways. He played in the QMJHL, a very high level of hockey, and broke a couple of scoring records in the process. He also played in the NHL and threatened many of Wayne Gretzky's records. This all proves that a little sweat and determination can go a long way.
