"Following your heart is the key to success."

Misty May-Treanor is a very experienced volleyball player and I could learn a lot from her. Misty won many victories and earned several titles as America’s Best Beach Volleyball player.

Misty was born on July 7th, 1977 in Long Beach, California. She started learning volleyball from her parents, Robert and Barbara May. Barbara died of cancer in 2002. Misty always wears the necklace that her mom gave her before she died. Misty spent most of her childhood playing beach volleyball with her parents near the Santa Monica Pier. When she was eight years old, she was in her first volleyball tournament. When Misty was in high school, she was on the varsity volleyball team and helped her team win the state championships two times in a row. Throughout her college years, she played Division I volleyball.

She began playing beach volleyball in the Summer Olympics in 2000. There, her and her teammate, Holly McPeak, came in fifth place. For the 2004 Summer Olympics, she played with her new partner, Kerri Walsh. Misty and Kerri did very well together. They received gold medals seven times in a row.

When not receiving her gold medals, Misty coaches volleyball at Irvine Valley College. She practices and trains almost seven days a week. She also spends time with her family and her two dogs. In 2004, she married Matt Treanor. Her hobbies include volleyball, making people laugh, and playing with her family.

Misty May is my hero because she is an inspirational volleyball player. She has shown me to never give up and to follow my heart. I can follow her example in many ways. In conclusion, Misty May is a great role model to kids and young volleyball players today.
