Mike Scioscia

by Andre from Mission Viejo

I first became aware of Mike Scioscia in 2002 when he led the Anaheim Angels to the World Series and won. Ever since that year he has been known as one of the best managers in the game today. What I like in him is that he isn’t a flashy type of guy. He teaches his team to be respectful and kind. He teaches his team to do the little things to win instead of trying to hit home runs. I like his career because I love baseball and I would love to coach and manage a team one day, it doesn’t matter if it's basketball or baseball.

Mike Scioscia’s main job is to try to lead the Anaheim or now called the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim to the world series. For college he went to Penn State. To become a baseball manager you have to be a bright and intelligent person. It is good to have lots of experience in the minor leagues in managing. You have a better opportunity to become a manager if you have this experience. It is better to know people in the baseball industry. If you don’t know anybody it's best to ask minor league teams for internships. Being a manager takes a lot of patience so you have to be really patient. Baseball managers roughly make around 2 million dollars a year.

Mike Scioscia always loved the game of baseball he started playing at an early age. This is probably why he chose to become a manager of a baseball team. He went to Penn State University but did not play on the baseball team. He somehow winded up playing baseball at the age of 21 for the Los Angeles Dodgers. After a solid baseball career Mike Scioscia still didn’t want to give up his love for the game. So then he became a manager with the Anaheim Angels. He is still coaching for them at the moment.

Mike Scioscia helps others by teaching them respect and kindness to the world. Every player that plays for Mike Scioscia learns those traits because he teaches them to be good people in the world. Mike Scioscia often has charity golf events in Orange County to raise money for the less fortunate. His career helps him do these wonderful things for people.

My high school goals would be to get good grades and get to know the coaches. In college it would be best to go to a place where baseball is one of the top priorities as well as education. My lifetime goal is to get involved in the coaching business. I love sports so this would be a dream come true if I was coaching a baseball or basketball team. This is why I chose Mike Scioscia as my personal career hero.
