Misty May was celebrating after a good play! (http://assets.teamusa.org) |
Misty May-Treanor is and will always be remembered in American history because she has proven to people what she can do. She has won 108 games in a row, won 2 gold medals from the summer Olympics for beach volleyball one after the other, which no other team has ever done before.
Misty May was born on July 30, 1977 in Los Angeles, California. She graduated from Newport Harbor High School and was named High School Player of the Year in 1995. While she was in high school she also played soccer, track, and played indoor volleyball for three years. In track she got second in high jump her sophomore year. In college she went to Long Beach State in California and was NCAA First- Team All-American from 1996 to 1997. She then led their undefeated volleyball team to a national championship in 1998. In that tournament she shared the "Most Valuable Player" award and received the Honda Broderick NCAA Athlete-of-the-Year Award.

"In 2000 Misty was playing played with Holly McPeak. They went into the Olympics and got fifth place. But from 2001 until now she has been playing with Kerri Walsh. Since 2008 Kerri and Misty have won their sixty-nine FIVB World Tour matches with ten straight gold medal finishes. They also won the 2008 Olympic beach volleyball tournament and became the first team to ever win two beach volleyball matches. The pair finished the tournament with a 7-0 record and never dropped a set. Misty was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tounament, finishing third among hitters with 107 kills and third among diggers with fourty-three digs. The team finished the Olympics games with a 108 winning streak."
Misty has inspired me in many ways. She has made me want to grow up and be exactly like her. She inspired me by starting with inside volleyball, but then made her skills work in the sand and with four less people. She has showed her talents very well and I hope that I can have the chance to do that when I am older too. Maybe my choice won't be beach volleyball, but I will make sure I pick a sport like volleyball that I will always love.
