Manabu Mabe

by Joseph from Cedar Grove

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is braver for five minutes longer.” A hero has that extraordinary drive to devote their life to accomplishing a goal. Just because a person is famous or is a celebrity, doesn’t make them a hero. But if they possess the special qualities a hero has, such as being loyal, committed, and selfless they can be a heroic human being. Also heroes usually try to inspire others by doing great deeds and being role models. Manabu Mabe is one of the greatest artists from Brazil who changed the look of Brazilian art.

Manabu Mabe lived a long fulfilling life. He was born September 14, 1924, in the city of Takara, Japan. Manabu was born into a big family. When he was ten, his family immigrated to Brazil. As he got older, he worked his first job on a coffee farm. He then began to start his dream job of being an artist. Even though he had no education in art he was a natural talent and desired to do it.

When Manabu Mabe began doing art in Brazil, he brought some of his Japanese style paintings. Manabu’s passion was painting, but he also used other forms of art such as oils and pastels. He created more than 50 paintings during his career. He earned many awards for his art work. One of his most famous was the Leirner Award in 1959. In presenting the award, the President of Brazil, Juscelino Kubitscheck, said, “My congratulations, spare no effort in contributing to the world of Brazilian art.” Manabu won over 80 different awards all around the world. Manabu died when he was 73. That is a short life in some people’s eyes, but he fulfilled his dream of being an accomplished artist.

Manabu Mabe is a hero because he possessed special qualities, such as devoted, selfless, and open-minded. He was devoted because he didn’t have a good childhood immigrating when he was 10, but he came to Brazil and accomplished his dream. In the eyes of many people, he was open-minded because he brought the style of Japanese style panting over to Brazil. Finally, he was selfless because he didn’t want anything or complain because he had a rough childhood. He set out and became an artist to bring enjoyment to others. Manabu possesses all these qualities and many more heroic traits.

In conclusion, a hero is anyone who has extraordinary qualities. A hero can be anyone who has a special drive to do what they believe in. Manabu Mabe was an unbelievably talented artist originally from Japan but completed his dream of painting in Brazil. Manabu will always be a hero to the people of Brazil and Japan.
