Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is brave five minutes longer.” A hero will take time out to make a difference and help others. Heroes have great qualities, like being loyal, devoted, and hard-working and they are extraordinary. It doesn’t matter if he or she is famous or someone most of the world does not know, but if they are extraordinary they are a hero. Samora Machel, the first president of Mozambique, is a hero in his country.
Samora Machel was born in Chilembene in 1933 and died in 1986. He led Mozambique to fight for independence against the Portuguese in 1962. In 1970 he became Commander and Chief of Frelimo Army. He wanted to change the country of Portugal. In 1975 the Portuguese were forced to leave Mozambique. Then Samora became President Samora on June 25, 1975 and the first President of Mozambique.

Samora Machel once said, “Of all the things we have done, the most important-the one that history will record as the principal contribution of our generation-is that we will understand how to turn the armed struggle into a Revolution that we realized that it was essential to create a now mentality to build a new society.” He wanted to build a new society. Samora built public schools and health clinics for the poor. He nationalized the Portuguese plantations and property. On October 20, 1986, Samora Machel died in a plane crash.
President Samora was very extraordinary. He was also a leader because he led Mozambique to be independent. He was a hard-working person and was selfless. Samora was a role-model because he was a person who accomplished great deeds and was loyal. He was a very creative man because he found a way to give independence to many and Samora was honest.
In conclusion, it does not matter if your hero is a family member or someone famous. Samora Machel is a hero from Mozambique. He protected his people by becoming their first president. He accomplished many deeds when he was President. Samora was a great hero.
