This hero has not done a great heroic deed like some of the other athletes on this website have done, but he has succeeded in a way that makes him deserve to be called a hero; my hero. The person I have picked to be my hero is not of that high a caliber. Not in which he saved people or did something courageous. The person I have chosen in my eyes is the most amazing and kind-hearted person I have ever known. Although he is all muscular and hits as hard as rocks he is as smooth as ice once you get to know him.

Lono Manners, the young man I have chosen to be my hero is from nowhere better than the home of the Seariders. Lono began his freshman school year at Waianae as a running back for the Seariders. After graduating high school Lono did not want to finish there. He was a walk-on for The University of Hawaii and got a full scholarship to play as a strong safety, a position that fit him fine. After playing three years of football and missing one year for a knee injury, Lono is working for his chance in the NFL. In college, Lono played in the senior bowl of the East vs West game. He also made first team all-WAC defense.

Besides all of this, let's get to know the real him. Lono grew up with four other brothers and a loving and caring mother and father. Lono grew up in Nanakuli where he would hang around with brothers and friends. Lono had a regular life in which he didn’t really have to worry. When I was in the fifth grade, I remember going to his house to watch them lift weights with my dad and his brothers. I remember hearing about him when he was playing football and going to his parties.
I didn’t really look at him as a hero then but if you take a look at him now you will see that things are way different. Lono has stepped up a lot in his life. He is in college and his statistics show how much he has improved after switching from one position to another. Lono said he doesn’t really mind the swap from position. My love for sports, especially football, is more than anything. I love the feeling of being on the field making big hits and scoring touchdowns. I would like to get where Lono Manners is today and get my chance and hopefully fulfill my dreams and make not only to college, Like Lono, but to the NFL and become a hero myself.
