Mary Todd Lincoln was the wife of Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States. A well-educated woman, Mary advocated for the establishment of an all-women nursing corps. During the Civil War, she volunteered as a nurse and visited Union army camps to boost the morale of wounded and dying soldiers.
