Maya

by Jasmine from Fort Lupton

Who has read the article of Maya the female pitbull who rescued her owner? Angela Marcelino was rewarded by Maya for saving her from the Santa Clara County Animal Shelter in June 17, 2007.  Maya has became a house pet and a loyal best friend. A year later an intruder tried to kill Angela, but Maya fought the attacker away. Afterwards, she was awarded Hero dog of 2008 on National Dog Day.
Maya was named a hero when she fought off an intruder trying to choke her owner. Fighting the intruder, Angela managed to escape the man's tight grasp. The intruder slowly walked away hurt, bleeding from Maya's painful bite. Maya's mouth was red with the intruder's blood. The cops used the blood for DNA and found that Angela's attacker was a 38 year old man named Anthony Easly who is now in prison.
Pitbulls are thought of as a very dangerous animal. Not all pitbulls are as bad as many people seem to think. Maya just happened to save Angela from being strangled to death. I learned that most animals can be heroes. Some animals can also be more loyal than humans.
